Kate Cofer

Meet local artist and business owner Kate Cofer!

Q: What inspires you about Bremerton?

A: The people. There's just a really cool mix of happy and inviting and also a “you-do-you” attitude about where we live. I feel like you can show up as any version of yourself and our community goes, "how cool!" I love that. As I grow older I realize not all places are like that.

Q: What drew you to your medium?

A: With weaving specifically, there's no accuracy or precision required. You don't even have to plan ahead. There's room for change and adjusting until almost the finished product. And there's something about the movement my hands make when doing any fiber art - crochet, knitting, macramé, needlework - that alleviates my anxiety. Its very calming.

Q: What's next for your craft?

A: I’ve been teaching fiber art workshops in shops and breweries throughout Kitsap County for the past 4 years. I'm finally taking the leap and opening up Good Mood Workshop - a pop-up craft space in Manette. I'll be teaching my workshops there now, but also inviting in some really amazing artists in their field to teach workshops, too! We're starting with classes in watercolor and gouache and block printing and leatherwork and more. But I'd even love to see people in our community teach what they're great at - royal cookie decorating or makeup or wood carving. I'm just so thrilled to have a space dedicated to making. We will have some select craft supplies, too. Be on the lookout for more - we open September 9!
